PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 20-ranked Brown University men’s water polo team picked up two wins on the final day at the Bruno Classic as the Bears defeated Gannon University, 16-7, and the United States Air Force Academy, 15-12.
The Bears took an early lead against Gannon in the first game of the day. Máté Tymcyna and Filip Josipovic found the back of the net as Brown took a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter. The Bears then erupted offensively in the second quarter as the squad scored eight goals while holding the Knights to zero. Griffin Tunney posted a hat-trick in the quarter, while Dominik Balla and Mac Berry also contributed to the offensive outburst.
Brown continued to control the game in the second half, with Jeremy Tachiki, Andrew Gao and Dimitrios Kratimenos each scoring their first goals of the day as the Bears secured the 16-7 victory.
In net, Ryan Miele led Brown with seven saves, with Kratimenos recording five. Will Corr made his collegiate debut with two saves.
In their final game of the Bruno Classic, the Bears battled Air Force to a 15-12 victory in a back-and-forth contest.
Jaxson Tierney opened the scoring for Brown just 22 seconds into the first quarter, while Roland Csendes and Tymcyna added goals to help the Bears take an early lead. Air Force responded with offensive opportunities of its own, but Brown held a 8-7 lead heading into the second half as Tymcyna scored his second of the game with just 14 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
The Bears added seven goals in the second half, with four different players finding the back of the net. Tymcyna led the offensive effort with four goals against Air Force, giving him seven goals on the day. Tierney also recorded four goals in the victory.
Kratimenos anchored Brown in net, making 10 saves against Air Force to finish the day with 15 stops.
