NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The Saint Francis University Red Flash water polo team fell to the No. 20-ranked Matadors of California State University-Northridge by the score of 12-3. Saint Francis was outscored 9-0 after the first quarter ended in a 3-3 deadlock.

Saint Francis struck first when senior Ani Aghakhanian (La Crescenta, Calif/Los Angeles Valley College) scored on a penalty goal.

Freshman phenom Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate) added to the nascent lead with a strike.

The Matadors stormed back with two goals to even the score.

Dupperon added another multiple goal game to her collection with a perfect shot. Alas, it was the last lead and last goal of the game for Saint Francis.

The Matadors tied it up before the first quarter ended.

In the second quarter, CSUN proved why they are ranked in the polls. The Matadors used a suffocating defense and a timely offense to take a 8-3 lead.

The SFU defense held CSUN to one tally in the third quarter, but the Red Flash were unable to make offensive headway. CSUN added three insurance goals in the fourth quarter.

It marked the first ever meeting between the two schools in the sport of water polo.
