PRINCETON, N.J. — No. 22-ranked Brown University completed a single day Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) event at Princeton University’s DeNunzio Pool by beating Mercyhurst University, 14-2, and Bucknell University, 18-3.

The wins raise Brown’s league record to 3-2 with a home game on Saturday, April 4 at 1:00 p.m. against No. 11 Harvard University determining four of the seven seeds for the CWPA Championship on Friday-Sunday, April 10-12, at the University of Michigan.

Princeton University and Michigan completed their league regular season dockets with 5-1 records, while Harvard holds a 4-1 mark.  A win by Brown over Harvard will seed Princeton No. 1, Michigan No. 2, Brown No. 3 and Harvard No. 4 due to Princeton holding a head-to-head win versus Michigan and Brown then holding a head-to-head defeat of Harvard.  However, if Harvard defeats Brown, then Harvard, Princeton and Michigan all hold 5-1 marks, while Brown slips to 3-3 to take the No. 4 seed.  The tie between Harvard, Princeton and Michigan is broken by goal differential in their meetings with one another.  Since Michigan defeated Harvard (14-13) and Princeton knocked off Michigan (9-8), Harvard claims the No. 1 seed in that case due to defeating Princeton 8-5.  Princeton will then take the No. 2 seed due to its head-to-head victory over Michigan.

Facing Mercyhurst to begin setting the stage for the eventful Brown-Harvard game to come in two weeks, the Bears started strong with a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 7-1 lead into halftime. Alexandra Love netted the most goals for the Bears with three, with Madeleine Poissonnier, Cleo Washer and Sofia Flierl all adding pairs. Five others added a goal each, giving the Bears a win.

Goalkeeper Somto Okafo allowed two goals and made 11 saves.

Brown cruised to an 18-3 defeat of Bucknell to close out the day.

Samantha Kim finished the game with a team-high four goals. Six other Bears concluded the contest with two goals, while Ava Schoening led Brown with four assists.

In goal, Okafo finished with 13 saves.

Brown took control early, outscoring Buckell 9-0 in the first quarter and acquired a 13-1 margin by halftime. Brown outscored Bucknell 4-2 in the third quarter in overpowering the Bison.
