WASHINGTON, D.C. – The No. 24-ranked Bucknell University women’s water polo team took two non-conference games at George Washington University by beating the host Colonials, 11-7, and Saint Francis University, 16-8.

Bucknell improves to 19-8 on the season, and have now won four straight games.

Facing George Washington, Ally Furano gave the Bison a 1-0 lead early on in the first quarter on the way to five goals in the game.  Bucknell then scored an additional goal by Nina Benson before GW responded with a goal just before the end of the opening frame.

After the Colonials pulled within one in the second period, 5-4, Ally Furano scored off of an assist from her sister, Paige Furano, to gain a two-goal cushion.

GW scored once again on a goal by Juliette Belanger to commence the third quarter, before the two sisters linked up on another goal to make the game 7-5. 

George Washington once again pulled within one in the fourth at 8-7, before Ally Furano scored her fifth with just a few minutes remaining to keep a 9-7 lead.  Two more unanswered goals by Benson and Kali Hyham helped Bucknell hang on for a four-score win versus the homestanding Colonials.

Ally Furano finished with five goals and an assist to lead the Bison, while Paige Furano notched four assists.  Benson tallied two goals and four assists in the win. 

Hayley Pogue and Georgia Lewis split time in the cage, combining for nine saves.

In the day’s finale versus the Red Flash of Saint Francis, Bucknell kept the momentum going with a 16-8 win.

The Bison took a 6-2 lead after one thanks to goals from Benson, Hyham and Sarah Mooney. Two more unanswered goals to open the second quarter from Hyham and Paige Furano helped Bucknell garner a six-goal advantage before the Red Flash responded with a goal at the end of the first half.

However, the Bison left little doubt to open the second half, scoring six unanswered goals to take a 14-3 lead on the way to an eight-goal margin of victory.

Benson compiled a season-high seven points on five goals and two assists as the Bison boasted five players with multiple goal outings.

Ally Furano added three goals and two assists, while Paige Furano notched three goals and five assists for a season-high eight-point performance.

Pogue and Lewis combined for three saves in a solid defensive effort by the Bison.
