PRINCETON, N.J. — No. 3-ranked Stanford University jumped out to a 9-0 lead by the 4:27 mark of the second quarter and never looked back in defeating St. Francis College Brooklyn, 17-6, on the first day of the 2021 Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
The Cardinal shot out early, scoring five goals in the opening quarter, each from a different player. On the other side of the pool, Stanford held the Terriers scoreless until the 2:47 mark of the second quarter on the way to a 10-2 lead by halftime.
Leading 14-4 by the conclusion of the third quarter, the Cardinal capped of the win with a 3-2 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter for a 17-6 victory.
Larsen Weigle and Troy Gleason paced the Stanford offense with three goals each, marking a career best for Gleason. In all, nine different players scored for the Cardinal, including six multi-goal performances.
Nolan Krutonog and Liam Harrison split time in goal, with Krutonog making seven saves in the first half and Harrison making six in the second half.
For St. Francis Brooklyn, Baptiste Oliveri (Jr., Marseille, France Lycée du Rempart) scored twice in the third quarter, while Adonis Vlassis (So., Athens, Greece Lycee Francohellenique Eugene Delacroix) and Josep Jodra Munoz (Fr., Sant Andreu, Barcelona, Spain Collegi Closa) added first quarter strikes. Dominick Hevesi (Jr., Budapest, Hungary Ferenc Kolcsey) and Riyad Shehadeh (So., Nicosia, Cyprus Pascal Greek School) tallied fourth quarter scores.
