LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The No. 4-ranked Pepperdine University Waves earned a 15-11 victory over No. 4 Princeton University at the University of Southern California’s Uytengsu Aquatics Center in the Fifth Place game of the 2023 Overnght/Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational.
Pepperdine began the game with two goals before exchanging tallies with Princeton to take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
Roko Pozaric and Finn LeSeur scored to tie the game, but the Waves quickly countered to retake the lead. George Caras posted a tally with 29 seconds to go in the first half to tie the contest at six-all.
The Waves began the scoring in the second half, but a goal from Logan McCarroll and two more by Pierce Maloney put Princeton in front for the first time at 9-7.
Pepperdine made another push, ripping off a 4-0 run, going ahead, 11-9, with 6:20 left on the clock.
The Tigers got within one twice, but the Waves finished the game with three consecutive goals to earn the victory.
Maloney led the team with three goals, while West Temkin had 11 saves in the loss.
