CARLISLE, Pa. — Lillie Herron (Gr., Orlando, Fla.) made her offensive contributions count in the second half and beyond as she scored twice in the third quarter and once in the fourth quarter prior to pumping in the deciding blow with 2:13 remaining in a sudden death overtime period as No. 4-ranked/No. 12 position/Southeast Division Champion the University of Florida overcame No. 12/No. 13 position/Northwest Division Champion the University of Washington, 15-14 OT SD, during a 2026 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship consolation game.
The loss drops Washington into a 13th/15th place game at 8:40 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, April 18, against the fallen from another consolation game matching No. 9/No. 8 position/Texas Division Champion the University of Texas and No. 16 position/Mid-Atlantic Division runner-up the University of Pittsburgh. Due to time constraints the 13th and 15h positions in the final 16-team championship standings are not played out as the Huskies will conclude their weekend in Pennsylvania tomorrow evening with either a tie for 13th or a tie for 15th on their record.
Florida advances to face the winner of the Longhorns-Panthers game at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, with the victor earning a spot in the championship’s Ninth Place game at 2:15 p.m. and the loser competing in the 11th Place contest at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 19.
Washington appeared primed to run away with the game by holding leads of 3-1, 6-3 and 11-7 at the conclusion of the first, second and third quarters, respectively.
However, the Gators climbed back into the contest during the fourth quarter as Camila Maya (Jr., Vernon HIlls, Ill.) and Eleanor Duffy (Sr. Orlando, Fla.) dumped in shots at 6:34 and 6:03 (penalty shot), respectively, to trim Florida’s deficit to 11-9. Jojo Southwell (Jr., Seattle, Wash.) returned the Huskies’ spread to three at 12-9, but Duffy (3:00, man-up), Lorena Campos (Jr., Madrid, Spain) (1:00) and Herron (17 seconds) balanced the damage at 12-all to bring on overtime.
In the first three minute period, Florida gained its inaugural lead of the game as Campos (2:32) buried a shot to put the Gators in front 13-12. The lead was short-lived as a penalty shot by Reis Every (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wash.) with 20 seconds on the clock retied the teams at 13-all.
Cate Everett (Fr., Bainbridge Island, Wash.) flipped the script and put the Huskies ahead at 14-13 with 1:40 remaining in the second OT period, but Duffy converted a man-up opportunity at 1:17 to bring on sudden victory/death.
Just 47 seconds into the third OT period, Herron proved to be a hero as she hooked in the deciding blow in a 15-14 victory.
For Washington, Every (five), Southwell (four), Iben Orton (So., Bend, Ore.) (four) and Everett combined for the Huskies 14 goals. Goalkeeper Julia Lubas (Sr., Glen Ellen, Calif.) stopped 17 shots in taking the loss.
Herron (four), Campos (three), Duffy (three), Maya (two), Natalie Carpenter (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Marlie Hayes (Sr., Orlando, Fla.) and Rose Pascual Anton (So., Madrid, Spain) accounted for Florida’s offense to support a combined 11 save performance by netminders Ana Dal Bo (So., Curitiba, Brazil) (nine) and Elin Brugge (Sr., Sanford, Fla.) (two).
