BRONX, N.Y. — The No. 5-ranked Fordham University water polo team finished off its fourth consecutive undefeated season in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) play with wins over Bucknell University, 18-4, Mount St. Mary’s University, 20-9, and Mercyhurst University, 26-7, at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center,  Courtesy the team’s 12-0 mark in MAWPC competition, the Rams clinch the No. 1 seed for the upcoming MAWPC Championship at Fordham on Friday-Sunday, November 21-23.

Facing Bucknell, the Rams allowed only four goals as Matthew Bonello DuPuis was the star for Fordham with 12 saves, two assists and a pair of steals.

Luca Provenziani and Diego Tresa led the offense with three goals each, while Andras Toth, Barnabas Eppel, Gianni Farrugia and Alessandro Salipante all tallied two.

In the second game, Fordham and Mount St. Mary’s played a tight first quarter with the Rams ahead 6-5 on a first quarter hat-trick by Balazs Berenyi.

The lead expanded to 10-6 by halftime and a monster seven-goal third quarter pushed Fordham ahead 17-8 on the way to a 20-9 victory.

Toth netted five goals, two assists and two steals, while Berenyi and Provenziani each had four goals. Eppel also finished with a hat-trick.

In the MAWPC regular season finale for Fordham, the Rams utilized a pair of seven-goal quarters in the first half to set the stage for a 26-7 win.

The story of the game was Toth, who ended up with six goals, three assists and four steals.The six goals place Toth at 115 for the season, breaking the Rams’ single season record of 114 set in 2019 by Jake Miller-Tolt.

Tresa added five goals and five assists with Provenziani having four markers and two assists.
