PALO ALTO, Calif. — Making their inaugural appearance at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Invitational, the No. 16-ranked Rams of Fordham University had a stiff opening test in the No. 5 Trojans of the University of Southern California. Fordham fell in the contest by a 17-8 final score at Stanford University’s Belardi Pool.
Fordham opened the scoring with an extra-man goal by Jacopo Parrella for the early 1-0 lead. USC answered with four goals to end the first quarter with a 4-1 advantage.
USC powered their way to a 9-4 lead by halftime, posting three extra-man goals and a penalty shot goal in the second quarter. Fordham posted two extra-man goals from Luca Silvestri and Parrella in the frame with the final goal coming from Nir Gross.
The Rams closed within four in the third quarter at 10-6 following goals from Christos Loupakis and Silverstri. However, the Trojans ended the frame with back-to-back goals to go up 12-6 after three quarters of action.
USC closed out the match with a five-goal final eight minutes to claim a 17-8 victory.
For Fordham, Silvestri registered a team-high three goals, while Parrella and Gross each had two.
