PRINCETON, N.J. — Jovana Sekulic and Kayla Yelensky combined for seven goals as the No. 6-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team defeated La Salle University, 14-10, at DeNunzio Pool in the opening game of the 2025 Princeton Invitational.
After La Salle evened the game at one-all, the home squad ran off four straight to hold a 5-1 lead after eight minutes of action.
Sekulic registered a second quarter hat trick in just 3:43 to extend the Tigers’ advantage to six, 8-2. La Salle closed the gap to three with 1:08 to go, but consecutive tallies from Yelensky to end the half pushed the score to 10-5.
Head coach Derek Ellingson‘s team led by six before three consecutive by the Explorers cut their deficit in half, 13-10, with 3:26 remaining in the game. However, a tally by Shanna Davidson put the contest away for good.
For the Tigers, Sekulic (four) and Yelensky (three) led the way with Davidson and Ally Lurie accounting for pairs. Rachael Carver, Ava Houlahan and Kendall Wyer each slipped in solo strikes.
Yelensky and Davidson tacked on pairs of assists with Carver, Kate Mallery, Hadley Harbilas, Lindsey Lucas, Sekulic, Margaret Brandin and Grace Houlahan dishing out single helpers.
Lucas earned the win in cage with nine stops.
