PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 6-ranked Princeton University men’s water polo team collected Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) victories at home in DeNunzio Pool versus No. 20 Harvard University, 17-11, and Division III No. 4 the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 14-7.
In the day’s opener, the Tigers took care of business versus Harvard.
After the Crimson acquired a 2-1 lead, the Tigers ripped off five straight goals and eventually took a 6-3 lead after eight minutes of action.
George Caras scored two of his three tallies of the game in the second frame as Princeton held a 10-6 lead at halftime.
Harvard registered the first two goals of the second half to close within two, 10-8, but Princeton went on a 5-0 sprint highlighted by Caras’ hat trick tally to put the contest away.
Princeton finished with 10 goal scorers in the game as Caras (three), Logan McCarroll (two), Finn LeSieur (two), Roko Pozaric (two), Mason Killion (two), JP Ohl (two), Yurian Quinones, William Swart, Pierce Maloney and Isaac Rotenberg found the back twine.
Taking on MIT, the Tigers held the Engineers scoreless for the first nine minutes of game action and raced off with three of the first goals.
MIT closed the gap to one, 3-2, before Princeton used four consecutive tallies to hold a 7-2 at the break.
The Engineers made one more push, forcing a Tigers’ timeout after cutting the deficit to three, 8-5, with 5:05 to go in the third quarter.
The home team answered with five straight tallies and MIT never threatened.
