PRINCETON, N.J. — The No. 7-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo squad dropped the No. 17 Wagner College Seahawks, 15-12, at DeNunzio Pool.
The Tigers’ offense started fast with five of the first six goals. Wagner closed within two in the second frame but trailed 8-3 after 16 minutes. Princeton extended its advantage to six three times in the fourth quarter before three inconsequential tallies from Wagner closed the scoring.
Princeton avenged one of its two losses from earlier this season with the win over the Seahawks as Wagner handed the Tigers a 12-8 loss on January 29 at DeNunzio during the Princeton Winter Tournament.
Kayla Yelensky and Jovana Sekulic led the offense with four goals, while Shanna Davidson tacked on a pair. Kaila Carroll, Genevieve Fraipont, Kate Mallery, Ava Houlahan and Rachael Carver each added solo markers in support of a 17 save effort by goalkeeper Lindsey Lucas.
The win improves Princeton’s record to 20-2 on the year as head coach Derek Ellingson‘s group has won 20 games in each of the last five full playing seasons. Prior to the game, the team honored the Class of 2023 in Mindy Pang, Laura Larkin, Alexa Kourepenos, Fraipont and Annie Robinson. That class has won 70 contests during their time at Princeton.
