No. 8 Michigan State University-vs.-No. 14 University of Colorado Scoresheet (2024 Collegiate Water Polo Association Championship – Game #29 – Ninth Place)

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Michigan State University’s Sarah Koehler (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored three times to pick up Player of the Game recognition as No. 8-ranked/Big Ten Division runner-up Michigan State University doubled-up No. 14/Rocky Mountain Division Champion the University of Colorado, 10-5, in the Ninth Place game of the 2024 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship at Texas A&M University’s Student Rec Center.

The Spartans – which previously placed first (2001, 2002, 2006), second (2000, 2003), third (2005), fourth (2007), sixth (2004), ninth (2008) and 11th (2019) at the Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship – never trailed against the Buffaloes – which previously finished prior eighth (2003, 12-team field), 11th (2023) and 13th (2018) – as Michigan State opened up a 5-0 lead with 5:51 left in the second quarter and never looked back in rolling to a five goal victory.

For Colorado, Peyton Schmitz scored three times with Morgan Bruun-Jensen and Sofia Goicoechea each contributing solo markers.  Goalkeeper Sophie Simpson made nine saves in taking the loss.

Across the tank, Koehler (three), Sarah Olson (So., San Diego, Calif.) (two), Rachel Huyser (So., Jenison, Mich.), Alli Sutton (So., Ann Arbor, Mich.), Namika Page (So., San Diego, Calif.), Paige Beers (Jr., Rockford, Mich.) and Sabrina Boss (Sr., Rockford, Mich.) combined for Michigan State’s 10 goals.  Grace Rivera (So., San Juan, Puerto Rico) recorded 10 saves in picking up the victory.
