CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 8-ranked Princeton University women’s water polo team dropped a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) contest to host/No. 18 Harvard University, 7-6, prior to suffering a 14-11 loss to No. 13 the University of California-San Diego at the Crimson Classic.

Taking on the host Crimson, Kayla Yelensky began the scoring before Harvard evened the score at one-all after eight minutes.

Tallies from Ava Houlahan and Ally Lurie had the Tigers up two, but Harvard close to the gap to one at 3-2 prior to halftime.

The Crimson began the second half with four straight to go ahead, 6-3, with 4:02 to go in the third quarter.

Princeton shrank its deficit to a pair twice but couldn’t push through to suffer a loss. Yelensky recorded her third goal of the game with one second to go to shrink the final margin down to a single tally

Taking on UC-San Diego, the Tritons ripped off the first three goals of the game before consecutive goals from Houlahan made it 3-2 with 4:40 to go in the first quarter.

UC-San Diego’s offense caught fire with five consecutive goals to snag a 9-5 lead by halftime. Princeton got within two twice, trailing 11-9 after a Kate Mallery tally as the fourth frame got started.

However, the Tritons registered back-to-back goals within 29 seconds to go up 14-10 and put the game away.
