ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team fell in a pair of matches at the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Erie Classic hosted by Gannon University at the Hallman Aquatics Center.  The Lions suffered a 23-16 setback versus McKendree University prior to dropping a 16-4 meeting with Mercyhurst University.

Against McKendree, the Bearcats set the tone in the first quarter with 10 goals while holding the Lions to four.  

Behrend outscored McKendree in the second quarter by a 4-3 count, but the Bearcats held a 7-3 advantage in the third quarter to take a 20-11 lead.

Makenzie Rickerd led with five goals and Lauren True posted four tallies for the Lions in the loss.  Hope Edwards and Darragh Martin both registered two goals with goalkeeper Monica Villasenor posting 10 saves.

In the late game versus Mercyhurst, Susie Carrillo scored three of Behrend’s four goals in the game with Karis Barth accounting for the remaining marker.

Mercyhurst had a 7-2 lead at halftime before outscoring the Lions 9-2 in the second half in rolling to a 12-tally win.
