ERIE, Pa. — The Penn State Behrend women’s water polo team split a pair of contests as part of the Penn State Behrend Invitational hosted by the Lions. Behrend opened the day with an 11-10 non-conference loss to Washington & Jefferson College prior to capping off the day with a 9-4 non-conference defeat of Grove City College.

The Lions jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead over Grove City with Shannon Young (Roseville, Calif./Roseville) and Marley Persch (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) each finding the back of the net in the first quarter.  The duo finished the game with hat-tricks.

Kayla Scarpaci (Cypress, Texas/Langham Creek), Sarah Mancebo (Tulare, Calif./Mission Oak) and Brooklynn Mocny (Sunnyvale, Calif./Homestead) each chipped in a tally during the win.

The Lions dominated the game from the outset as the Lions held the Wolverines to one goal in the first half to race out to a 5-1 lead.

Young also posted three goals in the loss to Washington & Jefferson.  Emily McNaughton (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) added a hat-trick of her own, but the Presidents overcame a 6-5 halftime deficit to knock off the Lions.
