BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Kara Stegmann (Sr., Harleysville, Pa./Souderton) of Penn State Behrend made 19 saves over the span of two games at the Saint Francis University Red Flash Mini in Loretto, Pa., to earn notice as the March 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Defensive Player of the Week.
Facing Division III No. 9-ranked Washington & Jefferson College and the host Red Flash on Saturday, March 18, she stopped 11 shots in a 12-11 overtime loss to the Presidents prior to turning aside eight chances in a 16-7 defeat at the hands of Saint Francis.
In addition, she added pairs of steals and assists during the course of the weekend competition.
The honor marks the fourth weekly nod of Stegmann’s intercollegiate career as she previously claimed the March 31, 2014 Division III Rookie of the Week and March 16, 2015 Defensive Player of the Week awards prior to earning the Defensive Player of the Week award on April 11, 2016.
