BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Samantha “Nic” Darrell (So., Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) of Penn State Behrend tallied nine goals, 11 assists, three field blocks, a kickout drawn and 20 steals during the Lions’ season-opening weekend in Erie to claim status as the February 20 Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III co-Defensive Player of the Week.

Darrell, who shares Defensive Player of the Week recognition with Lizzie Pelzman (So., Roseville, Calif./Roseville) of Division III No. 8-ranked Augustana College, aided Penn State Behrend’s cause in a home game versus La Salle University (26-6 L) on Friday, February 17.  During the 2023 Curtis Robinette Memorial Invitational hosted by Mercyhurst University on Saturday-Sunday, February 18-19, the Lions fell to the host Lakers (19-10 L), Wittenberg University (11-9 L) and Iona University (25-8 L).

Her best game occurred versus Mercyhurst as she netted three goals and grabbed 10 steals to tie a 19-year old school record for most swipes in a contest.  She added four goals and five steals in the loss to Wittenberg, a steal and a goal versus Iona along with a goal and four steals in the season-opener facing La Salle.
