FUKUOKA, Japan — Princeton University’s Jovana Sekulic (Jr., Belgrade, Serbia/The Episcopal Academy (Pa.)) connected on a shot for a goal and Tigers’ alumna/two-time Olympic Gold Medalist goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson ’17 turned aside 12-of-18 shots she faced as the United States disposed of China, 15-6, in both teams’ opening game of Group A competition at the 20th World Aquatics Championships.

Johnson stopped 11-of-14 action shots and a six-meter direct shot, while permitting a pair of man-up strikes and a penalty shot as the Americans overwhelmed China.  Overall, Team USA outscored their foe 1-0, 6-2, 3-1 and 5-3 in the first, second, third and fourth quarters, respectively, in coasting to victory.

Sekulic connected on her lone shot during a counter attack in 10:16 of playing time as the current Princeton standout also chipped in a steal.
