FUKUOKA, Japan — Former Princeton University standout Ashley Guapacha ’15 (nee Hatcher) scored converted on two-of-three shots, collected a pair of steals and blocked a shot as Argentina experienced a 21-11 setback against Japan in a 13th-16th Place game at the 20th World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Guapacha put away one-of-two action shots and buried a penalty shot as Argentina fell behind 8-0 in the first quarter prior to trailing 12-3 by halftime. The team chipped its deficit down to 16-8 by the conclusion of the third quarter, but Japan terminated any hopes of a comeback by outscoring Argentina 5-3 in the final frame to take a 10-goal victory.
Argentina will conclude its participation at the World Aquatics Championships on Sunday, July 23, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern as the squad battles Kazakhstan for 15th place in the 16-team field.
