BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Princeton University alumna Ashley Hatcher posted a steal for Argentina as the team fell to the United States of America, 23-3, during the third and final day of Group B competition at the 2022/19th Annual FINA World Championships hosted in Budapest, Hungary.
Competing at the Debrecen Swimming Pool Complex, Hatcher shot zero-for-one from the field with a pair of turnover fouls and a steal as Argentina wrapped up Group B action with a 1-2 mark following a 29-6 loss to the Netherlands and a 7-6 dispatching of the Republic of South Africa.
A 2015 graduate of Princeton, Hatcher missed out on facing her fellow former Tiger as two-time Olympic Gold Medalist/former Princeton goalie Ashleigh Johnson ’17 did not compete for the United States in the contest.
Team USA concludes Group B competition with a perfect 3-0 mark as the Americans took down the Netherlands, 11-7, after routing South Africa, 24-2.
The victory advances the United States into a quarterfinal against an opponent to be determined on Tuesday, June 28, while Argentina will return to the pool on Sunday, June 26, to battle Hungary of Group B with a berth to the quarterfinals at stake.
