BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Princeton University will face some of the nation’s best teams, including a slate of games against their fellow Northeast Water Polo Conference (NEWPC) institutions, as the Tigers released their 2017 men’s water polo schedule.
Princeton will open on the road at the United States Naval Academy’s Navy Open with games against Salem International University, Fordham University and La Salle University on September 2 prior to facing the host Midshipmen on September 3.
The team will return home to the Garden State for the Princeton Invitational on September 8-10 with contests against Chapman University and Johns Hopkins University on September 8. September 9 bring a game against Santa Clara University prior to the Tigers and the Bruins of the University of California-Los Angeles clashing on international television when ESPN broadcasts the showdown between the two powers at 1:00 p.m. on September 10.
Princeton will hit the road to the West Coast for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Tournament on September 22-24 at the University of Southern California. The team will then return home to DeNunzio Pool to clash with NEWPC foes Harvard University (September 30), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (October 1) and Brown University (October 1) before hosting Wagner College (October 5) in a non-league game.
Back-to-back league road games at Iona College and St. Francis College Brooklyn on October 11 lead into non-conference games in Cambridge, Mass., at 2016 NEWPC Champion Harvard’s Crimson Invitational against George Washington University and Wagner on October 14 before taking on Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Bucknell University on October 15.
The team will return to Cambridge for league games against MIT and Harvard on October 28 before traveling to Providence, R.I. on October 29 for a clash with Brown.
The team will wrap-up its league regular season and home schedules in early November as the Tigers host Iona (November 1) and St. Francis Brooklyn (November 4) to establish the final seeds for the NEWPC Championship on November 17-19 at Harvard.
Princeton, which last advanced to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship in 2015 prior to the split of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) into the MAWPC and NEWPC, will aim to claim a return trip to the event set for December 2-3 at USC this year.
