SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Princeton University men’s water polo collected another split during the second day of action at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament as the Tigers earned a 16-10 victory over Ottawa University prior to taking a 10-7 setback against host Santa Clara University.

Against the Spirit of Ottawa (Arizona), the Tigers started quickly ripping off the first 10 goals of the contest and not allowing a response until the 4:41 mark of the second quarter. Princeton held an 11-1 advantage at the intermission as the Tigers were not threatened the rest of the way by running off to a 15-4 lead after 24 minutes on the way to a six-goal win.

10 different players scored goals in the victory for the Tigers.

Taking on tournament host Santa Clara and Princeton alum/Broncos’ head coach Keith Wilbur, Princeton overcame an early 1-0 deficit via tallies from Yurian Quinones and Mitchell Cooper to hold a 2-1 margin with 3:52 left in the quarter. However, Santa Clara answered with two more goals and held a 3-2 lead by the close of the opening frame.

The Broncos tacked on three more goals to jump ahead, 6-2, with 4:10 to go in the first half, but Keller Maloney cut the Tigers’ deficit to three (6-3) by halftime.

Down 7-6 with 6:23 left in the fourth quarter following a strike by Wyatt Benson, Princeton was unable to capitalize on its remaining opportunities as Santa Clara ripped off three straight to put the game away.
