BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Lindsey Lucas (So., Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) of No. 9-ranked Princeton University posted 32 saves over the span of three games during the 2024 Princeton Invitational to earn acclaim as the February 19 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

The honor marks the 13th weekly recognition of Lucas’ intercollegiate career.  Last season, she claimed the January 30, February 27 and May 15 CWPA Division I Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards along with notice as the February 13, March 20, April 3 and April 10 Rookie and May 1 Defensive Player of the Week.  She previously garnered Defensive Player of the Week status during the 2024 campaign by earning the February 12 award.

She opened the weekend by making 10 saves in an 11-6 conference defeat of No. 19 Harvard University on Saturday, February 17, prior to turning aside five shots in 16 minutes of work during a 21-9 victory over Siena College.  On Sunday, February 18, she wrapped up the weekend by making 17 stops as the Tigers doubled-up No. 24 San Diego State University, 14-7.

Lucas is on pace to potentially shatter the conference record for most Defensive Player of the Week nods held by former Tigers’/current United States National Team goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson who garnered 19 Defensive Player of the Week awards during her tenure. Johnson holds the record for most weekly honors at 25 as she was named the February 11 and April 15, 2013 Rookie of the Week along with Player of the Week nods in 2013 (February 11), 2014 (April 18) and 2015 (April 13, April 27).
