BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Princeton University’s Warren Croxton earns recognition from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) office as the league’s 2022-23 Division I Sports Information Director of the Year.

Selected by the CWPA Director of Communications, the SID of the Year award is presented to individuals who “have achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.”

Croxton recently finished his seventh full season with Princeton Athletics in 2023. He covers the water polo teams, men’s and women’s rowing, football, and women’s basketball with Princeton.

The 2022-23 season marked just the second time in program history that both the Princeton men and women’s water polo teams won their conference championships (Northeast Water Polo Conference – men; Collegiate Water Polo Association – women) in the same academic year equaling the institution’s mark from the 2011-12 academic year. The women’s team finished 30-4 overall in 2023 becoming just the third team in program history record at least 30 victories (2014, 2015). That squad reached the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) semifinals for the first time in program history and became the first non-West Coast team to get to the Final Four since 2016. The men’s team had 27 wins, the most in program history and reached the NCAA Championship quarterfinals in consecutive years for the first time ever.

Croxton also covered the Princeton women’s basketball team’s run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this year after it won the Ivy League regular season and tournament titles. He also covered Andrei Iosivas, a NFL selection in the sixth round the 2023 National Football League (NFL) Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. The men’s lightweight and women’s lightweight rowing teams also won team national championships, while the baseball team had one of the best single-season turnarounds in the NCAA.

Prior to his time at Princeton, Croxton worked at Haverford College for year and half in addition to working at Chicago State University.

The 16th year of Athletics Communications recognition by the CWPA dating back to the first awards following the 2007-08 season, the laurel marks the first honor bestowed on a Princeton Sports Information Director for work during either the men’s and/or women’s season since the SID of the Year honors were created prior to the 2007-08 academic year.

His award marks the ninth CWPA Division I SID of the Year laurel presented by the league office since the merger of the Southern, Northern and Western Divisions into one format prior to the 2015 season as Croxton joins Achilles Carmenate/Michael Black (Harvard University, 2015),  Ben Blevins (University of Michigan, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020), Josh Schur (Harvard, 2017), Chris Gondek (Hartwick College, 2018), Matt McCann (Mount St. Mary’s University, 2021) and Connor McCorry (Harvard, 2022) on the list of honorees.
