OTOPENI, Romania — Princeton University goalkeeper West Temkin (Fr., Alamo, Calif./Campolindo) turned aside 11 shots as the United States overcame Australia, 11-8, to earn at spot in the 22nd World U20 Championships quarterfinals in Otopeni, near Bucharest, Romania.
The Americans will dive back into the water on Thursday, June 15, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern versus Montenegro, while Spain meets Greece at 8:00 a.m., Hungary battles Italy at 9:30 a.m. and Serbia clashes with Croatia at 12:30 p.m.
Team USA held its own against the Aussies as the teams were tied at three-all and seven-all at the conclusion of the first and second quarters, respectively. The Americans pulled ahead 8-7 by the end of the third quarter prior to outscoring Australia 3-1 over the final eight minutes to punch the program’s ticket to a date with Montenegro.
