2023 World U20 Championship Tournament Site

OTOPENI, Romania — Princeton University goalkeeper West Temkin (Fr., Alamo, Calif./Campolindo) made eight saves as the United States Men’s Junior National Team claimed a 13-10 defeat of Greece in Group B action at the 22nd World U20 Championships in Otopeni, near Bucharest, Romania.

Trailing 3-2 after the opening quarter, the Americans pulled ahead in the second quarter thanks to a pair of quick goals early in the frame. Greece equaled the score at four-all, but Team USA racked up a 4-0 run over the remaining time in the first half to acquire an 8-5 margin heading into halftime.

Greece chipped its deficit down to 10-9 and 11-10 in the second half, but failed to net the equalizer as the Americans held on behind the play of Temkin.

The United States will return to the water at 11:00 a.m. Eastern on Sunday, June 11, versus Hungary prior to concluding Group B competition on Monday, June 12, at 9:30 a.m. Eastern against Serbia.  Hungary downed Serbia by a 17-15 score in the other Group B game on June 10.

Crossover competition begins on Tuesday, June 13, prior to the quarterfinals on Thursday, June 15, and the title game on Saturday, June 17.
