LEWISBURG, Pa. — Saint Francis University was unable to snuff either No. 7 Harvard University or Mercyhurst University in falling 17-3 and 9-8, respectively, on day one of a Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) weekend hosted by Bucknell University at Kinney Natatorium.

Facing the defending CWPA Champion Harvard Crimson, the Red Flash fell behind 5-1 in the first quarter and were unable to keep pace.

Caylah Olay sparked the Red Flash offense with two goals while consistently creating opportunities by drawing three ejections. Victoria Tamarit anchored the defense in goal, turning away 12 shots and adding two steals. Saint Francis showed physicality on defense behind field blocks from Bella Castaneda and Megan Marlin, while Aubrey Miller helped generate momentum by drawing multiple ejections.

Taking on Keystone State nemesis Mercyhurst, Saint Francis was tied with the Lakers at six-all exiting halftime.  However, Mercyhurst pulled ahead in the third quarter and held on in the fourth for a one-goal victory.

Four goals from Olay helped keep Saint Francis within reach throughout the match, while Laura Knight, Sofia Maioriello (two goals, one assist) and Sarah Hartwell added the other Red Flash markers.  Hartwell tallied four steals to pace the defensive effort with Tamarit racking up five saves, four steals and an assist.
