BRIDGEPORT, W. Va. – The Mercyhurst University women’s water polo team fell short against Saint Francis University, 18-3, in a first day game at the 2026 Salem Invitational hosted by Salem University at the Bridge Sports Complex.

Saint Francis pushed ahead 6-0 by the conclusion of the first quarter to pull away from the Lakers.

Junior Marley Hanlon scored a goal for Mercyhurst to narrow the deficit to five with just under six minutes to go in the second quarter. Saint Francis immediately responded by scoring seven more goals to snag a 13-1 lead entering halftime.

Saint Francis continued its momentum by opening up the third quarter with a goal. Freshman Adriana Boltes Moragues scored a goal for Mercyhurst before Hanlon followed along with her second strike. The Red Flash retaliated with a goal 23 seconds later and deposited another tally to inflate SFU’s margin to 16-3 through three quarters of action.

Saint Francis scored two more goals in the fourth quarter to close out an 18-3 victory.
