BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Freshman goalie David Romero (Riverside, Calif./Martin Luther King, Jr.) totaled 52 saves and eight steals to earn September 25 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Rookie of the Week honors as Salem International University went 2-2 over the weekend in league play.

In a 19-2 victory over Washington & Jefferson University to open the weekend, He secured 11 saves on 13 shots and added two steals in a 19-2 victory at home against Washington & Jefferson College on Friday, September 22.  Romero completed the Tigers’ home-half of their weekend slate on Saturday, September 23, by posting 13 saves on 29 shots with three steals in a 16-15 loss to Gannon University.

On the road for a pair of games at Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday, September 24, he stopped eight shots and grabbed two steals in a 15-14 loss to La Salle University. Romero completed the weekend with 20 saves and a steal in a 20-18 victory versus Connecticut College.

The award marks the second time this season Romero has been recognized by the league office as he previously earned MAWPC Defensive Player of the Week accolades on September 11.
