2022 Salem University Men’s Water Polo Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. —  Salem University announced the institution’s 2022 men’s water polo schedule.

The Tigers will open the season on Saturday-Sunday, September 3-4, at the United States Naval Academy’s Navy Open in Annapolis, Mid.,  as the squad battles Mt. San Antonio College, Mount St. Mary’s University, George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University.

Two weeks later, Salem hits the road to Lewisburg, Pa., for contests versus Mercyhurst University, Wagner College, a Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) contest against Mount St. Mary’s and a clash against Fordham University on Saturday-Sunday, September 17-18.

Conference action begins in force the next weekend as the team treks to Erie and the Hallman Aquatics Center for league games versus Bucknell, Johns Hopkins and George Washington on Saturday-Sunday, September 24-25.

A weekend sojourn back to Erie for the Penn State Behrend Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, October 1-2, leads into the program’s first home games of the season on Saturday-Sunday, October 8-9, as Salem hosts defending MAWPC Champion Fordham, Wagner and 2021 MAWPC Championship runner-up the United States Naval Academy in MAWPC competition at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown, W.Va.

The team will leave the Mid-Atlantic region for the first time on Saturday-Sunday, October 15-16, as the Tigers head to New England for contests against Connecticut College and St. Francis College Brooklyn at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass., on Saturday, October 15, prior to heading over to Providence, R.I., for showdowns with Long Beach State University and the host Brown University Bears during the Harvard Invitational.

Salem will seek to claim its first championship of the season on Saturday-Sunday, October 15-16, as the Tigers, Gannon, Mercyhurst and McKendree University converge on the Hallman Aquatics Center in Erie for the Division II Eastern Championship.

Two weeks later, the Tigers had to Lebanon, Ill., for MAWPC action at McKendree against the host Bearcats, Mercyhurst and Gannon on Saturday-Sunday, November 5-6, to complete Salem’s regular season slate.

Unlike previous seasons in which a MAWPC-West Championship was held to determine qualifiers for the MAWPC Championship, there is only one championship shot in 2022.  Fordham will host the MAWPC Championship on Friday-Sunday, November 18-20, with Navy, Bucknell, Wagner, Mount St. Mary’s, Johns Hopkins, George Washington, Gannon, Mercyhurst, McKendree and Salem coming to the Bronx, N.Y., for a rumble to determine the league champion and qualifier for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Water Polo Championship.
