NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team suffered a 15-14 loss to Salem University at Connecticut College’s Lott Natatorium.  The loss ties Mercyhurst and Salem at 4-2 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region standings.

Due to the win, Salem cliches the No. 2 seed for the MAWPC-West Championship on Saturday-Sunday, November 3-4, at the Hallman Aquatics Center hosted by Mercyhurst.

In the deciding factor in awarding the No. 2 seed, Philip Jenny recorded three goals and two assists, while Daniel Alvarez had three goals to go along with pairs by Alex Cappuccio and Brennan RussellConnor Schmitz, Alec Diaz, Otis Tyson and Mathieu Davis each tallied one goal.

Ryan Witoslawski had two assists, while single assists were credited to Noah Ratliff and Russell.

Nash Greeven made 11 saves in net for Mercyhurst.

Michael Rojas led Salem with four goals and five assists. Milos Popovic was close behind with seven goals and one assist. Inigo Velasco tallied two goals and an assist, while Uros Jevtic had one goal and one assist. Salvador Orozco also had one goal.

In net, Andrew Perry grabbed 15 saves and had one steal for Salem.
