SALEM, W.Va. — Salem University announced the appointment of Katheryn Elgin as a graduate assistant women’s water polo coach. A native of Merced, Calif. Elgin will work primarily with the women’s program.
A past member of the the Skimmers and SOAK water polo clubs, she competed for six years in USA Water Polo’s Olympic Development Program (ODP) and was invited to try out for the United States National Team in both 2011 and 2013.
Team captain at Merced High School, she claimed Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors three times and garnered league MVP recognition during the 2014- 2015 season.
A three-time All-Conference selection who picked up All-Second status as a junior and senior, Elgin was named the 2014 Merced Sun Star Player of the Year to accompany four USA Water Polo Scholar-Athlete nods and a pair of KAI Sports Honorable Mention All-America nods.
A 2020 graduate of San Jose State University with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology with concentration in Sports Management and Culture Specialization, she interned in the Ticket Office for San Jose State Athletics during her senior year. Further, she coached youth water polo in San Jose for two summers and served as a volunteer coach in Merced for two years.
