LEWISBURG, Pa. — Salem University topped Mercyhurst University, 21-12, and fell to Wagner College, 18-14, on the first day of the 2022 Bucknell University Invitational.
Facing Mercyhurst, Salem controlled the game from the start.
The Tigers built a 6-4 lead after the first quarter and expanded the margin to 14-7 by halftime.
In the second half, Salem was fueled by the defensive play of Goncalo Silva who snagged two steals and a block at center as the Tigers rolled to a 21-12 win.
Marko Zivojinovic and Ivan Zivojinovic both scored seven goals in the victory. Nikola Krstonosic and Tristan McKay completed the scoring with four and three markers, respectively. Duarte Costa made nine saves in cage.
In Game 2, the Tigers fell behind early versus Wagner, but clawed back into the game after the halftime break to try to close the gap. In the fourth quarter, Salem tried to complete a comeback, but could not overcome the Seahawks’ advantage to fall 18-14.
Marko Zivojinovic accounted for five goals with Krstonosic and Ivan Zivojinovic each adding four markers..
In goal, Goncalo Silva made seven saves with a steal.
