BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Following the concluding weekend of regular season conference play, the seeding for the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship hosted by the United States Naval Academy at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Md., is completed with No. 3-ranked Fordham University (14-0 MAWPC), No. 20 George Washington University (11-3 MAWPC), No 20/host Navy (10-4 MAWPC), Wagner College (8-6 MAWPC), Bucknell University (7-7 MAWPC), Mount St. Mary’s University (3-11 MAWPC), Division III No. 10 Johns Hopkins University (3-11 MAWPC) and Mercyhurst University (0-14 MAWPC) holding the No. 1-to-8 seeds. Mount St. Mary’s edged out Hopkins for the No. 6 seed courtesy goal differential as the Mountaineers defeated the Blue Jays 16-10 and dropped a 15-13 decision for a +4 differential (29-to-25).
The three-day, 12-game championship will be streamed live on CWPATV.com at a cost of $10 per game or $25 for a weekend tournament pass.
For fans attending the MAWPC Championship, ticket prices are $25 for a three-day tournament pass or $10 for a one-day pass. Navy students, faculty and staff with a valid college ID, and senior citizens 65 and older, will be admitted at discounted prices of $10 (tournament pass) and $5 (one-day pass). All children 12 and under are free of charge. All tickets are exclusively available at the door as there will be no presale in advance of the championship.
Competition begins on Friday, November 22, as the top-seed/undefeated/defending MAWPC Rams of Fordham battle Mercyurst in a clash of the No. 1 and 8 seeds. No. 4 seed Wagner-vs.-No. 5 seed Bucknell (4:30 p.m.), No. 2 seed George Washington-vs.-No. 7 seed Johns Hopkins (6:00 p.m.) and host/No. 3 seed Navy-vs.-No. 6 seed Mount St. Mary’s (7:30 p.m.) conclude Day 1 action.
On Saturday, November 23, the loser of the Wagner-Bucknell game faces the loser of the Fordham-Mercyhurst game with a spot in the Fifth Place game on the line. The other position in the Fifth Place game is determined at 2:30 p.m. as the fallen from the Navy-Mount St. Mary’s contest faces the loser of the George Washington-Johns Hopkins game. The tournament semifinals match the winner of the Fodham-Mercyhurst and Wagner-Bucknell games at 4:00 p.m. prior to the victors of the George Washington-Johns Hopkins and Navy-Mount St. Mary’s games tangling at 4:00 p.m.
On Sunday, November 24, the Seventh (9:00 a.m.), Fifth (10:30 a.m.), Third (Noon) and Championship (1:30 p.m.) games take place to determine the final placement of each program in the league at the conclusion of the 2024 campaign.
