BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Connecticut College women’s water polo team fell to St. Francis College Brooklyn by a 20-11 score at the SFC Aquatic Center.

St. Francis Brooklyn, which competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), got four straight goals from four different players and never trailed in the contest. The Camels stormed back with balanced scoring by getting markers from freshman Stephania Lopez (Chicago, Ill.), senior Shannon Cry (Monterey, Calif.) and Brooklynn Hayes (Granville, Mass.), but they were unable to get over the hump. Kelsey Snelgar answered in the opening minute of the second period to make it 5-3, and the Terriers led by a 9-6 score at the break.

The Terriers started the second half strong by netting the opening two goals of the third quarter. Connecticut College closed the gap to three goals at 12-9 when senior Sophia Soriano (Summerland, Calif.) launched a shot to the back of the net with 1:11 remaining, but the hosts responded just 16 seconds at the other end. The Terriers stayed ahead by at least three goals the rest of the way en route to winning their fourth game of the season.

Snelgar exploded for 10 goals and two assists to lead the way for St. Francis Brooklyn. She also recorded a pair of steals. Goalie Ashley Harp made five saves to earn the victory in net.

The Camels got hat tricks from Cry and Lopez. Senior Sarah Nappo (Portland, Maine) notched a team-high four steals, and freshman goalie Sabrina Afshinnekoo (New York, N.Y.) turned away two shots from between the posts.
