VILLANOVA, Pa. — Mount St. Mary’s University water polo came out on the short end of a contest with the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) at Villanova University with the Keydets claiming a 15-5 victory.
Emily Van Kerckhove recorded a pair of goals for the Mountaineers, while Madison Szczublewski assisted on a pair. The Nevadan also added a goal of her own, a steal and a field block to post the best all-around effort for the Mountaineers.
Lily Pullen created several power play opportunities by drawing four exclusions. In goal, Rebekka Williams once again tallied double digit saves by stopping 11 Keydet shots.
As a team, the Mount (0-5) drew nine exclusions and scored two of their five goals in six-on-five scenarios.
The game marked the second time VMI defeated the first-year varsity Mount St. Mary’s program following a 20-4 win on March 7 also at Villanova.
Similar to the inaugural meeting between the two Virginia institutions, VMI once again took control of the contest early, leading 4-1 after the first quarter and 7-2 by halftime. Mount St. Mary’s tacked on two goals in the third, and never allowed more than four goals in a quarter to keep the Mountaineers in check.
