MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Player of the Game Jake Bradley (Turlock, Calif.) scored nine goals to lead the United States Coast Guard Academy to a commanding 21-4 victory over Augustana College in the Seventh Place game of the 2017 Men’s Division III Collegiate Club Championship at Middlebury College.
The Bears never trailed in the game as Coast Guard opened up a 10-0 lead by the conclusion of the first quarter and never looked back in collecting a 17-goal margin of victory.
Leading 11-2 by halftime, Coast Guard closed out the victory by outscoring the Vikings 3-2 and 7-0 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
Pat Ellis (Cooper City, Fla.) notched five goals, with Miguel Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) and Cory Creswell (San Diego, Calif.) tacking on pairs of markers. Jacob Haw (Ridgecrest, Calif.), Frank Joslin (Chicago, Ill.) and Taylor Aguirre (Atlanta, Georgia) completed the Bears’ offense with single goals.
In cage, John Frank (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned the victory with 12 saves as Coast Guard finishes Seventh after previously notching Fourth (2008 at Villanova University) and Sixth (2012 at Middlebury) Place marks.
For Augustana, Chris O’Neill, Jr. (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) contributed two goals with John McDonaugh (So., Northbrook, Ill.) and Jerry Welu (Jr., Naperville, Ill.) each finding the back of the cage once.
Goalie Nate Kies (Sr., Plainfield, Ill.) took the loss with six saves as the Vikings earn an Eighth Place mark. It marks the second time Augustana earns an Eighth Place mark as the team tied with host Bowdoin College at the 2014 Division III National Collegiate Club Championship in Brunswick, Maine due to a snowstorm knocking out power in the facility.
