2022 United States Naval Academy Men’s Water Polo Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The United States Naval Academy released the Midshipmen’s 2022 men’s water polo schedule.

The runner-up at the 2021 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship hosted by the Midshipmen at Lejeune Hall, Navy will seek to return to the top of the league standings and punch the program’s ticket back to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

Competition begins at home in Lejeune Hall as the Midshipmen will compete in the 2022 Navy Open on Saturday-Sunday, September 3-4, with games against Biola University, Princeton University, California Lutheran University and the University of California.  The team will hit the road for games versus Santa Clara University, Iona College and St. Francis College Brooklyn on Saturday-Sunday, September 10-11, at the Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University in Princeton, N.J.

Following a single game at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Thursday, September 15, Navy will aim to sink the University of Southern California, Occidental College and San Jose State University at the University of California-Davis’ Aggie Roundup in Davis, Calif., on Saturday-Sunday, September 17-18.

Following a week off, the Mids begin MAWPC action as the team meets Mount St. Mary’s University in Annapolis on Tuesday, September 27, prior to tangling with George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and Wagner College at home on the Academy grounds on Sunday, October 2.

Navy will then trek to Morgantown, W.Va., for games versus Gannon University and Mercyhurst University on Saturday, October 8, prior to meeting McKendree University and host Salem University on Sunday, October 9.  The league schedule continues with away games at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., and Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Md., on Saturday, October 15.

A trip to the Big Apple on Saturday, October 22, for MAWPC contests at Wagner in Staten Island and defending league champion Fordham University in the Bronx, lead into a four-game homestand for the Midshipmen as Navy welcomes Johns Hopkins University (Friday, October 28), George Washington (Saturday, October 29), Fordham (Saturday, November 5) and Bucknell (Sunday, November 6) prior to the regular season finale at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md., on Sunday, November 6.

The order of finish establishes the seeding for the MAWPC Championship set for Friday-Sunday, November 18-20, at Fordham.

In the history of the league, Navy has claimed nine league championships with crowns in 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
