BRIDGEPORT, Pa.. — Goalkeeper Max Sandberg (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) went 2-0 during a 3-1 weekend for No. 9-ranked the United States Naval Academy to earn status as the February 22 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.

In a pair of games, he recorded 19 saves with four steals, a pair of assists and 10 goals allowed as the Midshipmen downed No. 10 Bucknell University at home in Annapolis, Md. on Saturday, February 20, prior to earning the win in a 14-5 road victory at La Salle University on Sunday, February 21.

He recorded four saves while holding Bucknell to five goals in a 15-5 MAWPC-East Region, Southern Section, win at home in Scott Natatorium.

Facing La Salle in Philadelphia at Kirk Pool, he notched 15 saves with a steal and five goals allowed in a 14-5 victory.

The Defensive Player of the Week nods marks the fourth of Sandberg’s tenure at Navy as he previously garnered the accolade last week (February 15) and twice during the 2019 season (October 21, October 28).
