BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Max Sandberg (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) of No. 10-ranked the United States Naval Academy made 13 saves with one goal allowed in an 8-2 league defeat of George Washington University to earn laurels as the February 15 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.

The honor marks the third Defensive Player of the Week nod in Sandberg’s career following nods in 2019 on October 21 and 28.

Competing at The St. James Aquatic Center in Springfield, Va., Sandberg earned the start and the win over the span of three and a half quarters of work as the Midshipmen topped the Colonials in MAWPC-East Region, Southern Section action.

Navy’s 8-2 victory marked the fewest goals allowed by the Midshipmen since posting a 22-1 victory over La Salle University on September 4, 2016.
