BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Sophomore goalie Max Sandberg (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) made a career-high 12 saves in 26 minutes of work during a 14-8 upset of George Washington University to claim status as the October 28 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Defensive Player of the Week.

He surrendered five goals against the then No. 17-ranked Colonials as the Midshipmen stayed in the race for the MAWPC-East regular season title and the No. 1 seed for the division championship tournament on Friday-Sunday, November 22-24 at Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium in Lewisburg, Pa.

A two-time Defensive Player of the Week selection after claiming recognition last week on October 21, Sandberg has recorded 23 saves against a pair of then ranked MAWPC foes (15-12 W vs. No. 16 Fordham University, 14-8 W vs. GW) in the past two weeks to raise his season save total to 91.
