BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Merle Richman (Jr., La Jolla, Calif./The Bishop’s School) of No. 20-ranked the United States Naval Academy racked up five goals and two assists during a 2-0 league weekend for the Midshipmen to earn status as the October 18 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Player of the Week.
A first-time weekly honor recipient from the league office, Richman made his first appearance of the season on Saturday, October 16, at Division III No. 10 Johns Hopkins University count by posting two goals and an assist in a 14-10 MAWPC-East Region win. Later in the day back in Annapolis, he recorded his inaugural hat-trick of the season with three goals and an assist in an 11-10 defeat of the defending MAWPC Champion Bison of Bucknell University.
Versus the Bison, he tallied the deciding blow in the one-goal win to allow Navy to defend its home port and sweep the day-night league split doubleheader.
