GRESHAM, Ore. — Rocky Mountain Division Champion the University of Colorado struck like lightning with seven first quarter goals against Heartland Division Champion Grinnell College and Mother Nature did the rest as the Buffaloes defeated the Fireballs, 7-0, in a 13th/15th Place game at the 2018 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship hosted by the University of Washington at Mt. Hood Community College that lasted one quarter.
Following the conclusion of the first quarter, lightning occurred which caused the cancellation of the game with Colorado collecting the victory based on the results from the opening frame.
The Buffaloes scored early and often in the first quarter as Madison Lampe (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) opened the game with a strike 50 seconds into the contest to stake Colorado to a 1-0 lead with 6:50 left in the game’s only quarter.
Ashley Fedler (Jr., Murrieta, Calif.), Emmaline Bradley (So., Honolulu, Hawaii), Caroline Aemmer (So., Naperville, Ill.) and Daniela Sale (Fr., San Anselmo, Calif.) followed at 5:39, 4:02, 2:48 and 2:22, respectively, to push the margin to 5-0 prior to Fedler (1:34) and Jenna Solomon (Fr., Ben Lomond, Calif.) (1:05) pumping in markers for the 7-0 final score.
The victory ties Colorado with Texas Division Champion/No. 18-ranked Texas A&M University in the final 16-team tournament standings as the Aggies topped Atlantic Division Champion/No. 15 Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) by a 16-1 count in the other 13th/15th Place game. Due to limited time during the event the No. 13 and 15 spots in the field are not played out with the victors and losers tying for 13th and 15th place, respectively.
