BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — It came to the league’s attention today that the University of Florida women’s water polo team experienced a theft while in California for the Foothill Tournament.

Although rivals in the Southeast Division and constant foes for the division championship/spot at the National Collegiate Club Championship tournament, the University of Central Florida’s Jessica Robinson submitted the following as a call to arms for the Florida women:

As a team, our biggest rivals have consistently been UF Women’s Water Polo. However, many of our players are friends with their players, which makes for a bittersweet game whenever we play.

Recently, UF traveled to San Francisco for the Foothill Tournament, where they went 3-1, a fantastic finish for a Florida team. We are both proud and excited to see where we measure up to them in the upcoming tournament this weekend.

Unfortunately, while they were out exploring all that California has to offer, their van was broken into and their backpacks were robbed. Among the stolen items were 6 student laptops, totaling over $8,000 worth of lost possessions.

It is heartbreaking for a group of college students to lose their belongings, including school work and uninsured items, on a trip meant to better them as a team and individual student-athletes.

Women’s Water Polo at UCF has made a $50 donation to UF’s GoFundMe.  They also have a Venmo (@ufwwp), which can be used to send donations. Although, it is not much, we are positive they would support us in the same way if the roles were reversed.

We would like to urge CWPA teams to consider making a donation of any kind of the team. Go Gators! Charge on.
