BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Maddy Johnston (Fr., Hillsborough, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) of No. 9-ranked the University of Michigan posted a hat-trick with three goals to lead all scorers as the Wolverines dispatched host/No. 13 Indiana University, 9-7, in a comeback Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) conference win. For her performance, she collects recognition as the April 2 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.
It marks the second weekly honor from the league bestowed on Johnston as she previously earned the February 26 Rookie of the Week award.
She scored the game’s first goal as the Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead before trailing 4-2 by halftime. She scored in both the third and fourth quarters to provide the Maize & Blue a 5-4 lead and extend the margin to 8-6.
Overall, the three-goal output marked Johnston’s sixth hat-trick of her rookie campaign.
