BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Maddy Johnston (Fr., Hillsborough, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep) netted five goals, an assist, four steals and seven sprint wins in as many tries during a 3-1 weekend for No. 9-ranked the University of Michigan at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by the University of California-Irvine to garner recognition as the February 26 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week.

It marks the inaugural weekly honor from the league bestowed on Johnston in her young collegiate career.

She opened the weekend with pairs of goals, drawn exclusions and steals in an 8-6 loss to No. 7 University of the Pacific prior to notching a drawn exclusion and a steal in an 8-6 victory over No. 16 University of California-Santa Barbara on Friday, February 23.

Following an assist, two drawn exclusions and a steal in a 7-5 dispatching of No. 17 Long Beach State University on Saturday, February 24, Johnston concluded the weekend with a hat-trick in a 10-9 victory over No. 10 University of California-San Diego in the tournament’s Ninth Place game.
