BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Each fall during its Weekend of Champions, the University of Michigan Athletics Department honors its national champions (team and individual) and team conference champions that are celebrating milestone anniversaries (10 years, 20 years, etc.). The weekend celebration occurs during homecoming, and the honorees normally are recognized at a football game at Michigan Stadium. This year, however, Michigan’s homecoming was virtual on October 23-25.

During the weekend, the school recognized Michigan’s 2010 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship team which finished 33-8 on the year and claimed a berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship hosted by San Diego State University.  Led by head coach Matt Anderson, the Maize & Blue, which finished sixth at the NCAA Championship, claimed the CWPA title by downing Harvard University (18-10 W) and Princeton University (12-8 W) prior to knocking off Indiana University (7-5 W) at the University of Maryland.
