BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Freshman Abby Andrews (Indooroopilly, Australia/Brisbane Girl’s Grammar School) of No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan added to her legacy of first-season success by racking up six goals, 11 assists, five steals, two field blocks and seven sprint wins on seven attempts during a 4-0 weekend for her team at home during the Wolverine Invitational.  For her performance, she claims the March 4 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Rookie of the Week award.

A four-time CWPA Division I Rookie of the Week selection in 2019 with previous honors on January 21, February 4 and February 11, she freshman phenom helped Michigan flummox No. 14 University of California-San Diego (10-5 W), No. 6 University of the Pacific (11-5 W), No. 13 Fresno State University (20-8 W) and No. 15 Long Beach State University (16-9 W) over the two day invitational at Canham Natatorium.

On Saturday, March 2, she reeled off pairs of goals and assists along with a steal in helping the Wolverines’ stick a fork in the UC-San Diego Tritons.  Andrews concluded the day by tallying a goal, an assist and three steals as Michigan caught the Pacific Tigers.

She added two goals and two assists versus Fresno State to begin competition on Sunday, March 3, prior to recording six assists with a goal and a steal in upending Long Beach State. 

Historically, her six assists against Long Beach State marked the most in 2019 by a Michigan player and the tied for the third most in a single game during the program’s history.
