BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalkeeper Alex Brown (Sr., Clayton, Calif./Carondelet) of No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan made 36 saves with a pair of steals over the span of three games at the 2023 Fresno State University Bulldog Fest to earn status as the January 23 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

A five-time Defensive Player of the Week selection with previous recognition in 2021 (March 22), 2022 (February 14, March 7) and 2023 (January 16), Brown aided the Wolverines’ cause against No. 8 Fresno State (13-9 W), No. 6 University of Hawaii (15-6 L) and No. 4 the University of California (13-10 L) as Michigan moved to 5-2 on the season.

She turned aside 17 shots, allowed nine goals and snagged a steal versus Fresno State on Saturday, January 21, prior to posting nine saves with a steal and 15 goals allowed facing Hawaii.  On Sunday, January 22, she wrapped up the Maize & Blue’s West Coast excursion with 10 saves and 13 goals allowed in a loss to California.
